Aquathlon Worlds & New Forest Tri

World Age Group Aquathlon Championships, Pendicton, Canada.

Huge congratulations to Wight Tri member, 19 year old Aidan Pierce from Winford, who has won a bronze medal at the World Age Group Aquathlon Championships in Pendicton, Canada. Having just taking up Triathlon in the past two years and more recently represented the Isle of Wight in the Island Games triathlon and in the 1500m track event in Gotland, he has achieved a fantastic reward for his hard work and dedication throughout this year.
Aidan was competing in the 16-19 age group and took 3rd place and the bronze medal in a very fast time of 32:53, which was the 7th fastest time of all age groups. As he was also 1st GB in his age category, this secures him a PQ for next year’s world championships..
Aidan had a fantastic 1km swim to exit in 3rd place in 13:25 behind the Australian competitor and his fellow GB team mate. Posting the quickest transition time and although he lost a place to the eventual 2nd place New Zealand finisher, he overtook his GB teammate on the 5km run with a split of 18:30 to hold onto the Bronze Medal and Podium spot..
Surely a star of the future!

New Forest Middle Distance Triathlon

Closer to home, husband and wife Steve Goodier and Emma Spencer Goodier took on the New Forest Middle Distance Triathlon, with a 1900m swim in Ellingham Water Ski Lake, followed by a 90km cycle around the New Forest and 21km mixed terrain run. This was there second half ironman (70.3) distance triathlon, having conquered the Majorca 70.3 in May this year..
They both had excellent swims of 40:21 and 49:02, exiting T1 in 3rd and 5th in the male and female Vet 45 categories. Strong biking with splits of 2:56:51 and 3:49:48 saw them both make up time and retain these positions. Steve completed the race with a 1:53:03 half marathon run to finish in 5:38:59 and an excellent 3rd in the Vet 45 category. Emma started off well in the run, her strongest discipline. However, unfortunately she had to pull out of the run due to re-fuelling issues and sadly had her first ever DNF…..
