National Police Championships

Jan Fletcher represented Wight Tri at the Chester Triathlon on Sunday the 13th June, and was also representing Hantspol Tri in the ‘National Standard Distance’ Police Championships.

It was an early set off at 8am to try and beat the expected heat. There were 338 athletes competing, of which 80 were females.
Jan was in the 45 – 49 category with 11 other females.

The swim was 1500 metre’s in the River Dee, with the first half going upstream. Jan came out in 28 minutes 41, which included a long uphill climb into transition, which put her in a credible 13th (female ) position .

The bike was a 40Km route over an undulating course that sapped the energy. By now the sun was coming up and the temperature was rising. Jan completed the ‘bike’ in 1hour 7 minutes and 51 seconds, moving her up to an impressive 4th (female) position.
Jan then put in a rock solid run of 45:59 to maintain the 4th position, finishing only 50 seconds behind 3rd place. The 3 females ahead of Jan were all in a much younger age group.

Jan’s overall position was 4th fastest female, and fastest in her age group by a massive 12 minutes, finishing in 2:26:30. She finished 53rd out of 338 competitors in total.

Jan also attained the top position, finishing first place in the ‘National Standard Distance Police Championships.
