Torquay triathlon & Tooting Bec Lido Aquathlon

Torquay triathlon

Wight Tri members Nick Kenney and Jen Gallop participated in the Torquay Sprint Triathlon earlier this month. The new event for 2021 consisted of a swim in the blue waters of Torquay seafront, followed by a closed road circuit and a flat and fast run along the Esplanade.

Nick came home first in his age category (M45-50) with a finish time of 01:12:24. This compromised of a 00:15:29 swim, 00:31:27 bike and a 00:21:51 run which placed him 28th out of 268 competitors.

Jen completed the course in 01:35:34 which placed her 8th out of 12 females within the F35-39 category, placing her 188th out of 268 competitors. Jen’s splits included a 00:17:58 swim, 00:37:38 bike and a 00:33:15 run.

Tooting Bec Lido Aquathlon

Meanwhile in the capital, Crys O’Connell completed her first event as a Wight Tri member, representing the club in the final race of the Summer Aquathlon Series at Tooting Bec Lido.
The warm and calm conditions in South London were ideal for the 1km swim followed by a 7.5k run consisting of three laps of the Tooting Bec Common.

Crys had a strong swim as she exited the water in 21 minutes as 2nd female vet (8th female) at that stage. After the tough run, Crys finished as 4th female in her age category with an overall time of 01:02:48.
